Women's Big Bash League franchise Perth Scorchers have announced the appointment of Rebecca Grundy as the new head coach. She replaces Shelley Nitschke, who currently serves as Australia's head coach.

The former England player worked for the last three editions under Nitshcke, who moved to coach the Australian Women's side after the completion of WBBL 2022.

Apart from being Scorchers coach, Grundy will continue in her role as Western Australia Women's head coach, a post she has held since the 2020-21 Women's National Cricket League season.

Interestingly, Grundy played for the Scorchers back in WBBL 02, representing them in four encounters.

The left-arm spinner expressed her delight over the new role and hoped to carry Nitshcke's legacy forward.

Here's what Grundy said

"I am absolutely delighted to be taking on the role as Head Coach of the Perth Scorchers WBBL program and I am very keen to get started. To be involved in such a successful franchise and continue my growth as a Coach and as a person is a really exciting opportunity for me. Shelley (Nitschke) has been a wonderful mentor to me, and I have learnt so much from her. I can’t wait to build on all her hard work and have more success with this amazing club."

Perth Scorchers' General Manager Kade Harvey expressed her thrill over Grundy's appointment. The 32-year-old played seven ODIs and 12 T20Is for England between 2014 and 2016, claiming 20 wickets.
