England's James Anderson needs no introduction, regarded as one of the legends of the game already.

The swing bowler reclaimed the numero uno position in the ICC Test Rankings for Bowlers last week at the age of 40, which interestingly did not surprise former India player and head coach Ravi Shastri.

Shastri, known to be a hard man to please, hailed Anderson's longevity and praised the bowler for giving it his all across conditions.

Anderson is currently playing his 179th Test for England in Wellington versus New Zealand and sits on a mountain of 682 red-ball wickets.

The Lancashire-born is the third-highest wicket-taker in Test history, only behind Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan (800) and Australia's Shane Warne (709).

Speaking to The ICC Review, Shastri explained how Anderson's work ethic and professionalism should inspire others.

Here's what Shastri said

"I used to watch him so closely when I was a coach on tours of England every time. And what I used to admire was his work ethic. Even in Indian conditions, there were times he didn't play in India. But he would go out to bowl at lunch or straight after the day’s play or before the day’s play. I would say he would bowl 20 balls or 25 balls at the most. But every ball, he would give it his all. And at times I would tell my fast bowlers, Just watch the professionalism, the work ethic."

To finish it off, the 60-year-old asserted that Anderson is the best swing bowler in English conditions.
