In a remarkable turn of events, veteran batter Kane Williamson has etched his name in history by becoming the highest run-scorer for New Zealand in Test cricket.

During the ongoing Test against England in Wellington, the stylish right-handed batter surpassed Ross Taylor's tally of 7683 runs to achieve the landmark.

Most runs for New Zealand in Tests

  • Kane Williamson: 7787 Runs in 92 matches
  • Ross Taylor: 7683 Runs in 112 matches
  • Stephen Fleming: 7172 Runs in 111 matches
  • Brendon McCullum: 6453 Runs in 101 matches
  • Martin Crowe: 5444 Runs in 77 matches

Williamson, who debuted as a 20-year-old, instantly rose to fame by slamming a gritty 299-ball 131 in his maiden Test innings.

Soon after, he established himself as a vital cog in the BlackCaps side, captaining them across formats after the retirement of the legendary Brendon McCullum.

Besides leading the BlackCaps to a WTC title, the 32-year-old guided them to the semifinals and finals in multiple ICC events.

However, he recently passed the leadership baton to Tim Southee to focus on his batting, which has declined in the last few months.

But he had three poor outings in the ongoing Test series against the Englishmen, managing only ten runs in the first three innings.

However, fortunately, the Tauranga-born rediscovered his mojo in the second innings of the final Test, helping his side take a healthy lead from a precarious position.

Riding on Williamson's 132 and useful contributions from other batters, New Zealand have secured a lead of 230 runs.

As of writing, the hosts are 456 for six in their second innings, with Tom Blundell and Michael Bracewell batting on 74* and 0*, respectively.
