Australia Women's Captain Meg Lanning has overtaken legendary Ricky Ponting to become the most successful skipper in ICC tournaments.

On Sunday, Lanning led her troops to their second consecutive T20 World Cup title, becoming the first-ever captain to clinch five ICC trophies. In this process, she eclipsed Ponting's tally of four trophies to etch her name in history books.

Ponting, who took the baton from Steve Waugh, is arguably the greatest skipper of all time in Men's cricket. He led Australia Men to four ICC titles, two ODI World Cups in 2003 and 2007 and as many Champions Trophies in 2006 and 2009.

Meanwhile, Lanning has so far led Australia Women to four T20 World Cups in 2014, 2018, 2020 and 2023 and one ODI World Cup in 2022.

Regarded as one of the finest craftsman with the bat, the 30-year-old has definitely established a rich legacy as a captain in Women's cricket.

Notably, former Indian captain MS Dhoni occupies the third position on this list, having led his side to three ICC titles, an ODI World Cup in 2011, a T20 World Cup in 2007 and a Champions Trophy in 2013.

Regarding the game, Australia Women posted a challenging 156-run total on the board, riding on Beth Mooney's 53-ball 74*.

In response, South Africa fell short of the target by a mere 19-run margin, despite the valiant efforts from Laura Wolvaardt and Chloe Tryon.
