Riding on a dominating outing with the bat, followed by Shaheen Afridi's five-wicket haul with the ball Lahore Qalandars beat Peshawar Zalmi by 40 runs in Match 15 of the ongoing season of Pakistan Super League (PSL) at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. This is Lahore’s third win in four games, propelling the reigning champions to number three position in the points table.

Fakhar Zaman leads Lahore's charge

After electing to bat first, Lahore Qalandars posted a mammoth 241 for three in 20 overs, the third highest total ever in the tournament’s history. Peshawar Zalmi started well with the ball, removing Mirza Baig and Lahore were struggling to get going at 14 for one after the first four overs.

However, Abdullah Shafique, who was playing his first game of the season, came to bat at three and decided to up the run rate. Fakhar Zaman, who started slowly at the other end, started to open his hands as well. Lahore managed to finish with 36 on the board at the end of the powerplay and never looked back from there.

The pair went on to put on a carnival of batting in front of the home fans. The duo went on to add 120 runs for the second wicket as Shafique was halted after an entertaining 75 off 41. Fakhar, at the other end continued the onslaught and was very well complimented by Sam Billings, who carried the momentum from where Safique left.

Fakhar fell 4 short of his third T20 century, but Billings remained unbeaten till the end with a 23-ball 43, helping Lahore post 241.

Chasing 242, Peshawar got off to a very bad start as they lost both of their openers early in the powerplay, including skipper Babar Azam. However, Saim Ayub and Tom-Kohler Cadmore started to rebuild the innings and kept Peshawar in the chase with their brisk scoring rate.

Ayub and Cadmore scored half centuries, added 91 for the third wicket but were soon halted by Lahore at the halfway mark before any further damage.

Needing more than 12 runs per over in the last ten, Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Rovman Powell kept the score board moving but Zaman Khan sent both of them back just before the slogging overs.

Shaheen Afridi wraps up the tail, completing his fifth five-wicket haul in T20 cricket. Peshawar fell 40 runs short at the end of 20 overs.
