Even at the end of his illustrious career in competitive cricket, Australian spin wizard Shane Warne was a force to be reckoned with as he reinforced his class on multiple occasions in his brief spell leading Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the initial years of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Warne, who led the Royals to their title of the inaugural edition of the marquee T20 league in 2008, continued to guide his troops valiantly in the following edition of the IPL in South Africa when he showcased his mastery with the ball against India's young batting star and would be legend, Virat Kohli.

Facing up against Kohli in the league stage encounter with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the legendary bowler unveiled his magic past the ambitious Delhiite, who failed to pick up Warne's mesmerising legspinner and was bowled.

Trying to reach to the pitch of the delivery to hit it over the top, Kohli advanced at Warne and paid the ultimate prize for it when the great wristspinner gave the ball a rip and got it to drift and dip beautifully past his willow to get him out bowled.

Warne sent a reminder to Kohli of the class and pedigree he possessed even at the fag end of his career as the ball moved prodigiously off the hands of the master cricketer and completely befuddled the advancing RCB maverick. Kohli, though went onto have a stellar international career.

On the other hand, Warne had a fruitful stint with the ball for the Royals until the 2011 edition of the IPL, taking 57 wickets at an average of 25.39 while going for an economy rate of just 7.27.

Warne bid retirement from the league following the 2011 season and moved to commentary and broadcasting work afterwards.  The Aussie legend unfortunately passed away in 2022.
