In the latest development, one of the greatest Australia cricketers and the best spinner to have played the game, Shane Warne died of suspected cardiac arrest, according to a report from Fox Cricket. As per the reports, Warne was found unresponsive in his villa in Koh Samui, Thailand.
As per the broadcast giant Fox, the former cricketer's management released a brief statement that he passed away of suspected cardiac arrest.
“Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived. The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course.” the report added, citing a statement.
Warne, who was touted to be the best spinner ever, played 339 international matches over the span of 15 years where he snapped 708 Test and 293 ODI wickets respectively. Apart from winning zillion matches for his nation, the leg-spinner inspired generations of budding cricketers.
Warne was also a part of the team that won the 1999 Cricket World Cup and he was also the hero of the 1992-93 series, where the magician bowled the 'ball of the century' to Mike Getting. He also captain-cum-mentored Rajasthan Royals when the franchise won the first-ever Indian Premier League.
The Victoria-born retired from international cricket in 2007 after the New Year's Test against the arch-rivals England. However, he continued to play franchise cricket, especially Big Bash League, till 2012-13.
After retiring from his beloved game, the legendary cricketer went on to become a successor voice as TV/ Radio commentator and a successful businessman.
Earlier in the morning, on Friday (4 March 2022), Warne offered his deep condolences to Late Rodney Marsh, who unfortunately passed away hours before the leg-spinner due to the same cause.
