Often in ICC tournaments since 2013, Team India's major concern has been their middle order, which has been scratchy and sub-par.

However, in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, India's middle-order has looked more solid than ever before with the presence of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul.

Both, who have been in trouble with injuries for the past year have displayed sturdiness and composure in the World Cup, which has benefited India, who won all nine group matches.

Last evening in India's win against the Netherlands at M.Chinnaswammy, Iyer and Rahul notched up centuries, respectively, which heading into the semi-finals added confidence to the team's plan.

Iyer, who slammed an unbeaten 128* off 94, has earned rich praise from former India captain Anil Kumble for his mental strength.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, the former India coach lauded Iyer's 'temperament' and 'ability to soak pressure', who has already amassed over 400 runs this tournament.

Here's what Kumble said

“He has played some match-winning knocks under pressure even at the Test level. It goes to show his temperament and his ability to soak up pressure.

Even before the match against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede, there were talks that if Shreyas does not score, what happens when Hardik (Pandya) comes back. But he got an 80 there and followed it up with a 70 and then a hundred. It shows that he is mentally strong as it is not easy to come back from a long layoff straight into the World Cup.”

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) player has struck 421 runs with one country and two fifties and will be eager to carry his form against New Zealand as well in the semi-finals.
