Indian batting prodigy Yashasvi Jaiswal announced himself to the big stage with a scintillating century on debut. Back in July 2023, the cricketer mauled hosts West Indies at Dominica’s Windsor Park with a match-winning 171 in his first ever Test outing, where he also formed a 229-run opening partnership with captain Rohit Sharma.

Jaiswal’s maiden Test ton ignited much jubilation from his teammates, even from senior pros like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as the two batting legends were spotted sporting an ear-to-ear smile on their faces.

Back in July 2023, Yashasvi Jaiswal was handpicked by the selection committee to travel to West Indies as captain Rohit Sharma’s opening partner. The then 21-year-old impressed one-and-all on his maiden international assignment, as he whacked a scintillating 171 from 387 balls and occupied over eight hours at the crease against hosts West Indies.

Upon reaching his 100th run on the second afternoon, Jaiswal ran towards his opening partner and mentor Sharma, who in turn, hugged his younger teammate with a smile. Virat Kohli in the dressing room also celebrated the occasion, as he stood up to applaud the young batting prodigy scripting his own tale with the bat.

Yashasvi Jaiswal plundered a number of Indian batting records through his 171-run epic at Windsor Park. For starters, he became the 17th Indian player to score a Test century on debut, and the third as India’s designated opener.

Moreover, Jaiswal also became only the fifth Indian cricketer in history to make a century on Test debut overseas.

His dream debut prompted the selection committee to give him an extended rope in Tests, as he also toured South Africa in late 2023 for India’s two-match Test series. So far, the emerging star has played four Tests and 16 T20I matches for Team India.
