South African skipper Temba Bavuma, who missed his side’s World Cup 2023 warm-up fixtures in Thiruvananthapuram, has re-joined his squad just in time for the tournament. Moreover, the cricketer even took flight to Ahmedabad on October 4 for a Captains Meet at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

As it turned out, constant air travel seemed to have taken a toll on Bavuma as he was spotted taking a short nap between the captain’s ensemble.

At a time when nine other World Cup 2023 captains were basking in on the momentous occasion a day prior to the tournament opener, a seemingly jet-lagged Temba Bavuma found few seconds to take a short nap.

It is worth noting that Bavuma has travelled a considerable distance over the last week. Few days after arriving in India for South Africa’s first World Cup 2023 warm-up match, he flew back home citing personal reasons. The 33-year-old later returned to India in time for the Captains Day Meeting and for South Africa’s subsequent World Cup 2023 opening game.

Temba Bavuma will enter the tournament off the back of leading his side to a series win over Australia at home. The cricketer himself bludgeoned several notable scores, including an impervious 114* in Bloemfontein.

South Africa will now launch their World Cup 2023 campaign with a match against Sri Lanka. Their much-awaited bout is slated to be played out at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on October 7. The Proteas will subsequently face Australia on October 12 at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
