Babar Azam is one of the finest batting talents in the current generation and has been the pillar of Pakistan's batting line-up for a long time now. When he gets going, his class and elegance are a treat to watch and, if he scores big in difficult conditions, the excitement and appreciation are bound to go a notch higher.

One such moment was when he scored a fantastic century against a dangerous Aussie bowling attack on a fast and bouncy deck at Gabba. It was the first Test match of the two-match Test series between Australia and Pakistan and the first one was a tough one, at the Gabba in Brisbane, a venue where Australia were on unbeaten run in 2019, having lost their last Test match at Gabba in 1988 (India eventually ended their unbeaten run in 2021).

So, for any subcontinent batter to come to Gabba and score big runs is a massive deal. Pakistan batted first and were bundled out for just 240 as Babar Azam failed miserably departing for just one. Australia in response hammered huge score of 580 and a big innings defeat seemed just around the corner as Pakistan lost three wickets with just 25 on the board.

Outwalked Babar Azam with his team in all sorts of trouble. Shan Masood also batted well at the other end and duo stitched a 68-run stand before Masood departed on 42. Iftikhar departed for a duck soon but Babar Azam found an able parter in the form of Rizwan and both of them started building a steady partnership.

Babar Azam got to his fifty in 107 balls, and naturally was cautious with wickets falling at the other end. However, he picked up the pace after his fifty and played some glorious shots off the front foot and back foot. He got to his century with a glorious cover drive off the bowling of Pat Cummins, bringing the whole Gabba on its feet, applauding the champion from Pakistan.

Babar too looked quite determined throughout the knock and he brought out all those emotions out when he eventually got to his century. However, a lapse of concentration cost him his wicket as Lyon got the better of him. The lower order fought a bit after Babar departed but Pakistan eventually lost the game by an innings and 5 runs.
