Virat Kohli is widely heralded among the greatest batters of his era. His stellar accomplishments, achieved over the course of 16 years, has already captivated a devoted fan base. Some of his profound admirers include fellow cricketers themselves, with both former and active stars alike frequently expressing their admirations for the modern-day Indian batting legend.

Here at OneCricket, we take a look back at a time when Australian women’s great Alyssa Healy described Virat Kohli ‘bigger than the game’.

When Alyssa Healy heaped huge praise on Virat Kohli

Australian legend and current women’s captain Alyssa Healy once described Virat Kohli “an absolute superstar of the game”.

Kohli was in splendid touch with the bat back in January 2016 when Team India toured Australia for a series of eight white-ball matches. Healy was commentating in one of the games and at a time when the legendary Indian batter was making his way to the crease, she acknowledged the crowd’s thunderous roar and claimed that he is even “bigger than the game”.

Healy, whose husband Mitchell Starc used to be teammates with Virat Kohli for the RCB franchise in IPL at the time, added that she even got to spoke with the Indian maestro whenever she visited Bengaluru during those years. She said:

“He is an absolute freak. I've been fortunate enough that Mitch Starc has been playing at Bangalore over the last few years. And I've been lucky enough to be over there in the last two years and got to know him a little bit and got to chat about cricket. He is an absolute superstar of the game. He’s almost bigger than the game, especially in India.”

Virat Kohli went on to tally a number of staggering records across all formats in the subsequent years of his professional career. The cricketer recently shaped up his 50th ODI century to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s astonishing tally of 49 ODI tons. He also became the fastest cricketer in history to scale the 13,000-run mark in the format.

Kohli is already leading the run-scoring race in T20Is with more than 4,000 runs to his name.
