In Saturday’s IPL 2023 clash between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC), the young players of PBKS put in exceptional performances, leaving former Indian opener Virender Sehwag thoroughly impressed.

Opener Prabhsimran Singh, showcase his batting talent as he scored his first IPL century, a remarkable 103 off just 65 deliveries. His outstanding contribution helped Punjab Kings reach a total of 167/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

Following this, it was the turn of the other local lad Harpreet Brar to shine, as he decimated the Delhi Capitals' top-order and claimed exceptional figures of 4 for 30 in his spell of four overs, ultimately securing a convincing 31-run victory for Punjab.

Commending the young talents, Sehwag, who used to captain the franchise, expressed his delight at witnessing Punjab Kings win a match solely due to the efforts of local Punjabi players.

Highlighting the achievements of Prabhsimran and Brar, both representing the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) and Punjab Kings, the former opener praised their extraordinary performances that proved instrumental in securing victory for their team.

“This is the first time that Punjab won due to the Punjabis. Be it Prabhsimran or Brar, both of them play for PCA and PBKS, and won the game for their side with wonderful displays,” said Sehwag.

The legendary batter went on to laud Brar, who emerged as the standout bowler in the contest, taking David Warner, Phil Salt, Rilee Rossouw and Manish Pandey's wickets.

Sehwag further praised Brar's resilience, comparing his ball dismissal of Pandey to the legendary Shane Warne's "ball of the century."

"Brar was incredible. To bowl an over in the Powerplay and being hit for runs, the way he made a comeback in wonderful fashion. The ball that got Manish Pandey was like Shane Warne’s ball of the century," added the Indian veteran.

With this victory, PBKS have amassed 12 points from 12 games, and are placed sixth in the points table. They now face the critical task of winning their next two matches to keep their playoff hopes alive. Meanwhile, the defeat has effectively eliminated DC from the tournament.
