Kohli plays a shot against MI (BCCI)
Jofra Archer took the field for Mumbai Indians to mark his return to IPL lore after a gap of three seasons. His appearance was also his first for the five-time winners, as the speedster previously represented the Rajasthan Royals during his three-year run between 2018 and 2020.
As it turned out, Archer had a game to forget as he was taken to the cleaners by RCB’s opening combo of Virat Kohli and skipper Faf du Plessis. The English speed gun returned with four wicketless overs and conceded 33 runs off his spell.
Virat Kohli achieves a rare T20 record over Archer
RCB’s batting veteran Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 82 off just 49 deliveries to register an eight-wicket win for his side. He, along with his opening partner Faf du Plessis, formed a 148-run stand at the top of the order to take RCB closer to Mumbai Indians’ 171-run total.
Notably, Kohli scored 28 off his runs against Archer alone and struck him for two boundaries and two sixes.

In doing so, the RCB opener has now achieved a rare record of scoring most runs against a single English bowler in a T20 contest.

The batting legend also scaled several other records to his name during his match-winning effort. His 49-ball 82* marked his 50th 50-plus score in IPL, becoming only the second player after David Warner to do so.
Moreover, he achieved the feat while playing for a single team, making him the only cricketer in IPL history to scale the landmark.
