Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have started their IPL 2023 campaign with a bang as they hammered five-time IPL Champions by 8 wickets in front of their passionate home crowd at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

RCB made a mockery of what was expected to be a stiff chase as their current skipper, Faf du Plessis and the former skipper and superstar Virat Kohli stitched together a record opening stand of  148 runs.

Tilak Varma emerges as a Champion for MI after RCB bowlers strike early

Mumbai Indians were rocked early in the game as they lost their four big superstars with just 48 on the board in the 9th over. Siraj and Topley bowled brilliantly with the new ball and Mumbai were left with their young guns to bail them out of the trouble.

Tilak Varma then decided to take matters in his own hands and first build a 50-run stand with debutant Nehal Wadhera to bring some stability into the innings. After Nehal departed, it was Tilak Varma at his best as he played some fantastic shots all over the ground mesmerising the jam-packed crowd assembled at RCB's den.

RCB were also hampered by the absence of Topley at the death as he injured his shoulder in the 8th over. MI though smashed 48 off last three overs and got to a competitive total at the end of their allotted 20 overs.

RCB had a strong batting line-up and they would have hoped to chase down the total but the way they did it in the end would bring lot of smiles among RCB fans. Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis stamped their authority and played some glorious shots on their way to a 148-run opening stand. Faf du Plessis lost his wicket in the 15th over but the game was done and dusted till then and Virat and Maxwell finished off the game with flurry of sixes in the 17th over.
