IPL 2023 Live Blog: CSK vs LSG, Match 6 - Tweets, Videos and More

image-lg156q29Mitchell Santner and Moeen Ali changed the complexion of the match for CSK while bowling (Source: AP Photos)

10 runs off the last two balls but it was not enough for LSG to win the match. CSK win the match by 12 runs and we can say it was those two SIX by 'Thala' MS Dhoni that made the difference. This is Probuddha Bhattacharjee signing off from this match. Do join us tomorrow for the 7th match of IPL 2023 between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans.

23 off 2 and now we can safely say that CSK is off the mark in IPL 2023.

This is why MS Dhoni backs his players. The confidence he shows as a s skipper, inspires the bowler to give his best. And as we speak, Deshpande picks up his second wicket of the night. Badoni walks back to the hut. LSG now need 23 runs off 3 deliveries. As long as CSK does not ball a no ball, the job has been done here.

23 Runs off 5 balls needed.

One fielder inside the circle for CSK as they have been penalised for not starting the final over within time. OHHH DESHPANDEEEEE!!!! A No ball. He is bowling good line and lengths here but has to rectify this fault of his. Free hit!!! But it just cost him a single.

Tushar Deshpande with the last over. After 18 runs in the first over, he has conceded just 13 of the next two. Can he do it for CSK?

WHAT FIELDING THERE!!!! Gaikwad in the deep saves a couple of runs for the team excellent work by him. Hangargekar has showed that he has got a good head over his shoulders. An excellent  over under pressure. Just 9 runs off that over and LSG need 28 to win off the last six balls.

An excellent over there by Tushar Deshpande. Seven runs off that over under pressure. 37 runs needed off 12 balls now for LSG.

44 runs needed off 18 balls and the game is still on. Anything can happen from here on and it is all down to the nerves.

Deepak Chahar ends his spell with the most expensive figures of his IPL career.

DROPPEDDD!!! Shivam Dube drops a sitter. Man these are the catches you need to take to win matches.

There you go three wides followed by a ball in the slot and K Gowtham dismisses it from his presence over the mid-wicket fence for six runs.

Deepak Chahar is not at all at his 100 percent that is for sure. He is looking like half the bowler that he used to be. Three consecutive wide and this unwarranted gifting of the momentum to the opposition.

61 runs to win off 23 balls. Things are getting tense here.

WICKET!!!!! There is the Impact Player for you. Takes up the wicket of Nicholas Pooran and leaves the best impact he could have. Troll CSK, Troll MSD for his decisions, they will answer in the field. Let us see if Deshpande's redemption ultimately results in CSK's redemption.

SIXXXX!!!! There You GO!!! Pooran takes toll off Jadeja here. A flattt SIXX!!!!! ONE MORE!!! Reverse sweep this time into the third tire. Pooran is not giving up easily here.

'Sir Jadeja' into the attack. MSD trusting his spinners here.

So, the Spin Twin has done the job for CSK. Now it is upto the rest of the bowling to complete the job here. Let us see what happens from here in the last six overs. The target is 82 runs from 36 deliveries. And as long as Nicholas Pooran is out there practically anything is possible.

WICKET!!!!! Moeen Ali strikes for the fourth time. Uprooted the stumps of Moeen Ali. Deceived him in the flight. A big fish in Marcus Stoinis walks back to the pavilion. I would say, CSK is now just Pooran's wicket away from winning this match. But their depth in bowling is a concern. Badoni can accompany Pooran, but if its left only upon him, I don't think he will be able to do it.

Akshay: End of an excellent spell from Mitchell Santner. He finishes with figures of 1/21 in his four overs.

Four!!! Slashed away through point for four runs. A bit of room outside the off stump and Pooran makes full use of it. Once again a West Indian is changing the complexion of the match. 14 runs off the last three deliveries and LSG are right back in it.

SIX!!!! Pooran unleashes here!!! That was just picked up over the mid-wicket fence for six runs. Just what LSG needs more of.

Rajvardhan Hangargeker comes to bowl. This is interesting strategy by MS, using the young bowler in the death. Let us see, if it clicks.

WICKET!!!!! Moeen Ali with one more wicket. He is slowly changing the complexion of the game. Krunal Pandya falls this time. But the match is far from over, the silent assassin, Nicholas Pooran is still in store for LSG.

SIX!!!! 100 UP and Stoinis takes it on to Moeen Ali. As I said that was a temporary calm. Stoinis probably resuming a second assault here for LSG.

So that is the first TIME OUT of the second innings. Things have seemingly quietened down after the crazy start that Kyle Mayers provided LSG. They are currently stationed at 96 for 3 in 9 overs. The target at present is 122 runs off 66 balls. I would say it is 50-50 at this stage.

Marcus Stoinis walks out into the middle.

WICKET!!!!! One more. This time it is KL RAHUL. Suddenly the flow of the game is changing, and who is doing it? MOEEN ALI.

WICKET!!!! The second falls here for LSG!!!!! HOODA comes and goes. So CSK coming into the match a bit here.

Santner into the attack.

6 Overs 80 runs for the loss of one wicket. 79 runs was what CSK achieved and LSG have bettered by one run. But at last some sort of control for CSK in the bowling.

AT LAST!!!!! WICKET!!!!! CSK get the break in the scoring that they needed. Moeen Ali bowled a full delivery and Mayers lofts it towards the mid-wicket region. The ball hit the toe end off the bat and ended up being an easy catch for Conway in the deep. But Mayers has more than done his job. 53 runs off 22, complete destruction by Mayers.

This is going from bad to worse for CSK. Over throw and five runs. CSK is looking like a shadow of the team that once won four titles. Kyle Mayers brings up his 50 off just 21 balls.

Moeen Ali brought into the attack.

What a start by LSG here. 73 runs off the first 30 balls. The game seems in their hand now. The CSK medium pacers have not all looked upto the mark.

SWAT!!!!! FOUR!!!! That has been the norm already here for Mayers. 217 seems like a small total here. Another four!!! What sort of bowling effort is this. Seems like they have given up already. Now KL Rahul joins the party and 73 runs after five overs.

The over comes to an end at last. 56 runs after 4 overs and LSG are well on course to a second consecutive victory to start off their IPL 2023 campaign.

Akshaya: Mayers adds more salt to Tushar Deshpande's injury. And here are some energy drinks coming up for Deshpande! The over is still going on and Deshpande is slowing the game down.

He is under too much pressure. No rhythm for him here, just running in and bowling looseners. SIX!!!!!!! The game is probably finished here only!!!! With this type of bowling attack, CSK cannot expect to finish at the top half of the table. The bowlers are looking helpless in front of the assault.

Tushar Deshpande's problem with the No-Ball has come into this match from the previous clash. Free-Hit here for Mayers. Wide and the free hit is still on. OH!!!! A dot of the free hit, lucky for Deshpande. OH NO WAIT!!!! He has overstepped once again. One more no-ball, once again Deshpande is leaving the impact for LSG. And follows it with a WIDE!!!! Things are looking very very gloomy for CSK. And now a four!!!! This over is turning out to be too long for CSK.

Tushar Deshpande into the attack. Can he repay the skipper's faith?

FOUR MORE!!!! Mayers is murdering the CSK bowling here. The right impetus to chase down such a huge target. One more boundary in this over. Even a skipper of MSD's level is looking perplexed here. Three on the trot here, Deepak Chahar is not at all looking his 100 percent.

25 Runs after 2 overs. Benjamin Andrew Stokes conceded 18 runs in that over. I feeel that shoud be his last over with the ball for a few matches now.

FOUR!!!! Creamed through the off side by Kyle Mayers. Great shot, made full utilisation of the little room that was provided there. One More!!!!! Fuller this time and Mayers goes over the bowler's head this time. That is some way to silence the crowd!!!! And he follows the two boundaries with a SIX!!!!! This is a great great star for LSG. They have begun the chase in absolutely the right way.

Surprise!! Surprise!!! Ben Stokes comes into bowl with the new ball. It is time he leaves some impact for CSK in the tournament.

7 runs off the first over by Deepak Chahar.

FOUR!!!! KL Rahul brings up the first boundary for LSG. Good start here for the LSG skipper.

Deepak Chahar begins the proceedings here for CSK.

Impact player for CSK is Tushar Deshpande. He comes in for Ambati Rayudu.

So KL Rahul and Kyle Mayers are walking out there to chase down this big total. A good start will be absolutely necessary for LSG to climb this mountain. Well lets see what they make of the total......

image-lg111mjhMid-innings match situation (Source: OneCricket)

9:23 PM IST | AKP: Super finish from Chennai's favourite 'Thala' takes Super Kings to a massive total after being invited to bat first by the Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul! CSK post 217/7 in their allotted 20 overs and this is the highest total of the season.

The home side openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway teed off against the visitors’ bowlers. They powered CSK to 79 in six overs, and it was the highest-ever powerplay score by CSK at Chepauk. Soon, they blistered their way to a 100-run partnership, the third in 9 innings between Conway and Gaikwad. In the process, the stylish opener Gaikwad amassed back-to-back fifties and scored 57 runs off 31 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes.

Ravi Bishnoi broke this massive opening stand by dismissing Gaikwad in his very first ball as he was called late on the bowling by KL Rahul. Before getting out Gaikwad stitched 110 runs for the first wicket alongside his Kiwi partner. In the next over, Conway (47 off 29) holed out in the deep as Mark Wood made his presence felt with a bouncer.

Bishnoi bowled a terrific spell after the opening partnership and wreaked havoc in the middle order of CSK. Despite getting hit for a couple of sixes by Shivam Dube (27 off 16), Bishnoi had the last laugh. Later he finished with brilliant figures of 4-0-28-3 as he also scalped Moeen Ali (19 off 13), who was looking good in his short stay at the crease.

Despite losing a few quick wickets in the slog overs, CSK, on the bank of Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni's last-over special managed to put in a mammoth first-innings total. While Rayudu played an unbeaten cameo of 27 off 14 deliveries, Dhoni smashed two sixes in the three balls he faced. He got out in the third delivery but he had done his job of scoring quick runs as well as entertaining the Chepauk crowd.

For LSG, Ravi Bishnoi was the pick of the bowlers as mentioned above, while Mark Wood picked three wickets but went in excess of 12 runs per over. Krunal Pandya did get a wicket in his 100th IPL game but was expensive as the rest of the bowlers.

Can LSG chase this massive total, or will they succumb under the pressure?

So that is the end of the innings for CSK. They have managed to post 217 runs at the end of 20 overs for the loss of 7 wickets. Could have been more but they will be relatively happy with this total and the batting effort.

ONE MOREEEEE!!!!!! Wood has been thrashed here by MAHI. MAHIIIIIIIIII MARRRR RAHA HAIN!!!!!!!! 5000 runs up for DHONI in IPL. 12 runs in 2 balls, he is enjoying this here. BUT WOOD wins the battle here in the end.  He falls looking for the third six. 12 runs off 3 balls, a strike rate of 400, a job more than well done.

Walks in MS DHONI.... The craze is real for him here. SIXXXXX!!!!! That is the man, the myth, the legend for you!!!!! The crowd goes berserk. This is what he comes in for to provide the perfect finish to his team.

Ravindra Jadeja goes, clever bowling there by Wood.

LSG announce their impact player Ayush Badoni in place of Avesh Khan.

200 up for CSK. 203 runs in 19 overs, now they will go past the highest total this season with one more run. Here is the last over, so CSK will look to snap up 15 more runs at the least.

Last two over left in the innings. CSK stationed at 194 for 5. They will be looking at a score beyond 220 for sure....

Was he batting against a Spinner there??!! Full ball on the off stump. Rayudu steps down the track and lofts it over long-on for six runs.

So, no signs of 'Thala' Dhoni. It is 'Sir Jadeja' who walks out to bat.

Excellent over here by Avesh Khan. He has just conceded four singles here taking the momentum here away from CSK. As I say Stokes manages to squeeze a much needed boundary for the team. But it is Avesh Khan who wins the battle in the end. Stokes miscues a big heave and falls here after playing one more disappointing knock in the yellows. That is the 50th wicket for Avesh Khan and what a big name to get it.

These four overs now need to be maximised by CSK. Just throw your bat at every thing get the score past 220.

So there comes the end of a brilliant spell by Ravi Bishnoi. 4 overs for 28 runs and three wickets, excellent would be a praise too low for this effort by Bishnoi, considering 170 runs have been scored in 16 overs.

WICKET!!!!! Moeen Ali goes!!! But the intent was right. I support this. Go for it, show the intent, if you fall, fall doing something meaningful. With that the second strategic TIME OUT.  Ali plays a good knock of 19 off 13 runs but should have shown a bit more aggression. Ravi Bishnoi certainly deserves a mention here for the courage he is showing.

4, 4 and loading is Moeen Ali. He is teaching Avesh a few lessons of how the game is played. And he does it a hattrick of fours. 15 overs done and CSK are 164 for 3. Last 30 balls left in the innings and at the least 60 more runs should be the target for CSK.

WICKET!!!!! Goes for one more wild slog and gets the top edge to short third. Mark Wood catches the ball. But he has done what was demanded off him. He has given the momentum to CSK in the middle overs and now the others need to do the job. BIG BEN Walks out let us see what happens.

Another SIX!!!!! 16 Runs off the last three balls for Shivam Dube. And one more!!!! this is amazing hitting by Shivam Dub. I am happy he is sliencing me like this.

Shivam Dube is just wasting deliveries. He needs to swing hard and leave it on fate for the ball to clear the ropes or fall in the hands of a fielder. As I say, he hits a six. I hope this gets him off the blocks. Well, he follows it up with a boundary. If criticising him brings that out from him I will be doing it through out from now on.

Things are slowing down for CSK once again. The middle-order letting the match slip once more after a brilliant start. Shivam Dube and Moeen Ali need to understand that they have a batting till number 11 and hence a change in the attitude is much needed here.

WICKET!!!!!! Conway goes back. That is brilliant!!! This wicket should be given to Krunal Pandya, Short ball at the body of the batter. Conway looks to pull the ball but gets a top edge to the deep sqaure leg region. Pandya runs to his right and dives forward to take a wonderful catch. Krunal makes his 100th match count. Is it going to be the same story for CSK, a good start and then loss of momentum????

10 Overs done: So it is halfway stage in the CSK innings. They are stationed at 113 for the loss of a single wicket. It is a brilliant start for the four time chamipons. If they go at this rate 222 runs will what they get. But I feel, with nine wickets in hand and the type of batting depth CSK have, they should aim for something around 240. Let's see how this goes.

Over 9.1: WICKET!!!!!! As I say, Ruturaj Gaikwad walks back to the pavilion. He looks to pull a good length ball and gets a top edge to short third. Mark Wood jumps up and takes a brilliant catch. But what a start has Gaikwad provided. 57 off 31 balls, now it will be upon the middle-order to continues the momentum.

Ravi Bisnoi comes into the attack. This will be interesting to watch.

Third hundred partnership between the pair in just nine IPL innings.

Let us have a look at the Impact Substitutes of the two teams.

image-lg0y7bttImpact Subsititues of the two team in the CSK vs LSG match (Source: OneCricket)

100 UP for CSK in just 8 overs. They still need to be careful about maintaining the momentum. The middle-order of CSK willl have to keep in mind that they have to make this start count.

FIFTY FOR RUTURAJ GAIKWAD. Back to back fifties for the man. He continues his sublime form in IPL 2023. Great debut for the talented young man at Chepauk.

A Single of the free hit, not too much costly.

OH NO!!! A No ball called by the umpire. Ruturaj will be facing the free hit.

Probuddha: Yash Thakur got a taste of IPL action earlier when he was a net bowler for the PBKS team. A few games in the Ranji trophy and now he is in the spot light. Inspiring story to follow.

The debutant Yash Thakur has been introduced into the attack.

Powerplay Up: A much needed Strategic Time out for LSG here. They are looking to break the rhythm of the batters with this interupption. CSK have started of brilliantly. They are 79 without loss in 6 overs and this is the highest ever score by CSK in PP at Chepauk. They need to maintain this momentum and bat the opposition out of the match.

FLATTTTTTT SIXXXXXX!!!!!! This is sereneeeee. Good length ball and he just rotates his wrist over it. The ball flies off to the sqaure leg fence for six runs.

Probuddha, 8:03 PM: Wood is feeling like a fish out of water may be. But never discount a bowler like Wood, he can make a comeback at any moment with an unplayable delivery.

Conway welcomes him with a boundary. Probably a message this is not your home ground mark!!!!!! As we speak another four!!!! But this was lucky escape for Conway there. Oh wait that was byes signalled by the umpire. But Conway follows it with a wonderful pull shot for four runs.

There Rahul brings in his weapon. Mark Wood into the attack, let us see how he follows up his brilliant show in the last match.

SIX AGAIIN!!!!! Third Six of the over. Gowtham has been assaulted in this over. Ruturaj is batting like an alien here.

SIX MORE!!!! Humongous!!!!! Gaikwad is really unleashing carnage here. Fifty comes up for CSK in 4.4 overs great start here.

Over 4.2: SIX!!!!! That has been swatted over the bowler's head. Gaikwad is in sublime touch here. Unbelievable form for him.

Spin from both ends. This time the off spinner, K Gowtham. KL Rahul is trying to be proactive here as a skipper. Within the fifth over we are seeing two spinners in tandem.

Krunal Pandya into the action in his 100th IPL match.

Over 2.1: FOUR!!!! WHAT A SHOT!!!!!! Ruturaj joins the party. Too full on the off stump. Gaikwad bends down and steers it past point for four runs.

Two overs down and CSK are 23 without loss... Steady start for the home team we can say.

Over 1.3: FOUR!!!! Conway gets going. Good length ball and room outside the off stump. He drives it through point for four runs and follows that with another boundary of the next ball. Elegance at its best.

WAIT!!!! The no ball has been cancelled. The third umpire upates the onfield umpire to take the decision back. A beginning full of confusions here.

Probuddha: OH!!! Review for the Wide!!!! I think it is a bizarre decision let us see what the third umpire says. The snicko shows no spike that decison stands. It was completely bizzare, absolutely surprising decision. As we speak Avesh's misery continues, it is a no ball followed by the five wide.

This will be interesting to watch Avesh Khan to Ruturaj Gaikwad.

So that ends the first over here. CSK have managed to score just 6 runs off it. Kyle 'the ever economical' Mayers lives up to his reputation.

Over 1.1, Kyle Mayers to Ruturaj Gaikwad:  Good length ball on the off stump line. Gaikwad pushes the ball off the inside half of the bat to the man at mid-off.

So the things have been cleared up and we are at last the proceedings start after five minutes delay....

There is a slight delay in the beginning of things here. A dog has invaded the field. That proves the hype of the match, even he wants to participate as an impact player.

The countdown begins.....

The umpires are out there. Now, the CSK openers walk out followed by LSG fielders. There is the pre match hurdle of the LSG team. We are all set to go......

Akshaya, 7:18PM: Well, he certainly looked in great touch at the beginning stages of the first match. But once the pitch slowed down, he was struggling to carry on the rhythm. I feel he will have to adjust a lot as per the conditions. Also, he will be facing his nemesis Avesh Khan quite early in the innings.

Probuddha, 7:18 PM: What do you think? Will Ruturaj Gaikwad continue his brilliant form in this match?

image-lg0vy9mrThe playing XI of the two teams for the CSK vs LSG match in IPL 2023 (Source: OneCricket)

Akshaya, 7:14 PM: Well I won't go far and predict the result of the game. But I would certainly say that LSG have the depth and arsenal to prove the number completely wrong. Let us wait and watch.

Probuddha, 7:12PM: An interesting decision here by KL Rahul. The records here suggest that the team batting first have won 46 of the 67 matches. Will LSG prove the numbers wrong?

So, MSD approaching a milestone here.

Lucknow Super Giants Playing XI: Kyle Mayers, Lokesh Rahul (c), Deepak Hooda, Marcus Stoinis, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Krishnappa Gowtham, Krunal Pandya, Avesh Khan, Mark Wood, Ravi Bishnoi, and Yash Ravisingh Thakur.

Chennai Super Kings Playing XI: Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes, Ambati Rayudu, Shivam Dube, MS Dhoni (c), Ravindra Jadeja, Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, and Rajvardhan Hangargekar.

One change for LSG, Yash Thakur gets a go in place of Jaydev Unadkat. While, CSK go in with the same eleven.

Toss Update: Lucknow Super Giants have won the toss and have decided to bowl first.

Probuddha: All right so we are all ready for the toss.

Akshaya, 6:58: I am going with what Danny Morrison. And to remind the readers, Nicholas Pooran said in the pre match interview that, he has been designated the role of hitting sixes and increasing the team's scoring rate. So expecting to see some fire works from him.

Probuddha, 6:55 PM: So, the pitch is predicted to be a sporty one. Not a traditional slow and spinning Chennai track. What do you think Akshaya? What are you expecting?

Pitch Report (Danny Morrison): "The pitch is on one side of the square. So the dimensions will be crucial here. Over to my right from the pavilion end, there is a 68 m boundary. Over to my left is the shorter side with only 61 m. Hitting downtown is 75 m and gets really short behind with only a 57 m boundary. That's where the batters will try to dab and scoop. The pitch is not the traditional one. It's white and the average first innings score is only 150. Winning score is around 165-167. But it's a night game and dew might be a factor here. It will be spin to win here but the batters can smash the bowlers with the shorter boundary and can get going."

So,  we are all ready for the match to start. The toss will be taking place soon. The Pitch report has been done and let us take a look at it.

CSK vs LSG, Key Players to Watch out for

  • KL Rahul has a very good record against CSK and at the venue. He has scored 124 runs in 4 matches at the venue and has amassed 435 runs from 12 matches against the opposition.
  • Ruturaj Gaikwad has hit a good form in the first match of the tournament scoring 92 runs against GT. He will hold the key for the CSK batting.

CSK vs LSG: Head-to-head battles

The two teams have played a single match against each other in IPL 2022. The match was won by Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings will be eager the equal the numbers in this encounter.

But the fixture against KL Rahul's Lucknow wouldn't be easy at all for CSK. The former are coming off a fantasic win in their season-opener against Delhi Capitals, meanwhile Chennai were outclassed by Gujarat Titans at Ahmedab.

Having said that, the atmosphere in Chepauk would be mesmerising as the diehard CSK fan would be turning the stadium yellow.

It's been 1426 days since CSK and MS Dhoni last played at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium; however, this season would be an emotional yet inspiring ride for the Super Kings as it could be their Thala's last dance in the IPL.

Hello and welcome to OneCricket's Live Blog of the much-awaited clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Kings (LSG). It is always a festival whenever CSK plays, and it gets double the fun when the caravan reaches Chennai.
