Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain, Virat Kohli, has recently opened up about his aspirations for the much-anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season. Despite experiencing a challenging 2022 campaign, the RCB superstar remains resolute in his determination to return to peak performance levels and guide his team to glory.
Speaking in a video posted by RCB on their Twitter handle, Kohli conveyed his renewed sense of confidence and determination to restore his signature playing style, despite having encountered an array of difficulties in the previous IPL and England tour.
He further remarked that it would be a thrilling prospect to reach the desired level of performance and help his team, resulting in an exciting season.
"I am just back to playing the way I do. There's still a lot of room to get to my best which hopefully happens in the IPL if I am able to get to the level I want to play at and help the team and it will be exciting," said Kohli.
Furthermore, the Indian veteran shared his emotional journey and how he prioritized his mental and emotional well-being to reconnect with his love for cricket. He explained that he needed to take a break from the field to revitalize his interest in the game. The RCB batting mainstay felt overwhelmed and exhausted and needed to distance himself from the constant scrutiny and self-judgment.
“I was absolutely exhausted and I needed to connect to myself as a human first and not judge myself constantly and keep myself under scrutiny all the time,” added the legendary batter.
Moreover, the 34-year-old cricketer also opened up on returning to their home ground after four years and tantalized his legion of supporters with the announcement of a "special announcement" to be disclosed on the day of RCB's inaugural home game.
This proclamation is sure to ramp up the anticipation and augment the spectacle even further. Whatever this announcement may entail, it is evident that Kohli and his cohorts are gearing up for an unforgettable and triumphant IPL campaign.
“It is special because I know how much the fans want to see us in the stadium and the Chinnaswamy will be lit up again, the crowd will be buzzing and so will the players and it will be special with a special announcement. It will definitely be a day to remember," concluded Kohli.
RCB will kick-off their IPL 2023 campaign against Mumbai Indians on April 2.
