Dispute Between USA Cricket and Organisers Could Delay MLC Start

The Major League Cricket (MLC) ended their first-ever draft with much success over the weekend but now faces a dispute between USA Cricket and organisers, which could delay the start of the 2023 edition.

The dispute, after reaching the doors of the International Cricket Council (ICC), may now start later than its scheduled start date sometime in July. According to ESPNcricinfo, ICC has instructed all members about not providing No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) to their players until the matter is resolved.

It is being reported that USA Cricket is yet to sanction MLC or Minor League Cricket (MiLC). Both tournaments are expected to be game-changers for US cricket and are the brainchild of American Cricket Enterprises (ACE), which signed a 50-years deal in 2019 with USA Cricket.

Here's what the ICC said

"Applications for sanction have been submitted to USA Cricket, but these events have not yet been sanctioned by USA Cricket. Consequently, without a sanction from the host member, both events are currently deemed to be Disapproved Cricket and as such, Members should not issue NOCs to their players to participate in either event."

Tournament director Justin Geale has assured concerned authorities that the competition will begin on the said date (July 13) and that the ICC will change its stance in due time.

The MLC will have as many as four Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise owners administering a club in the six-team competition.

Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians own teams based out of Los Angeles, Texas, Seattle, and New York, respectively.
