Over the years, India and South Africa’s T20I battles have never offended fans, from the past to the most recent one. But the thrills soared high in 2024, when India travelled to South Africa, and the Proteas challenged them with some woes.

Making his T20I debut against the West Indies in 2023, the youngster needed to wait for his maiden T20I hundred till 2024.

In the last year, Team India played a four-match T20I series, and the world saw Tilak’s fury in the third match. With a 1-1 balance, both sides stepped onto the stage, but the youngster’s maiden T20I ton nailed the game for the Men in Blue.

While batting first, India faced an early blow as Sanju Samson walked away on a two-ball duck. After his dismissal, Tilak Varma joined Abhishek Sharma, and the Protea bowlers faced heat. Stitching a crucial partnership with Abhishek, Tilak completed a fiery fifty in just 32 balls.

After Abhishek’s dismissal, Team India kept losing consecutive wickets, but the batter tightened his grip. Dominating the lethal Protea bowling attack, Tilak smashed his maiden T20I ton in just 51 deliveries and pushed India towards a strong position.

Depending to his unbeaten 107 runs in 56 balls, Team India posted a giant total of 219 runs. Taking on the Proteas in their own backyard is never easy, but when raw talent fuses with fierce determination, magic is inevitable.
