The inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL) in India has sparked great anticipation among cricket enthusiasts and players alike, as it provides an opportunity for female cricketers to not only showcase their talents but also benefit from the rewards of a financially lucrative tournament.

However, the WPL is not solely the domain of the elite players, as it presents an avenue for lesser-known individuals to earn selection into the national squad, as is the case for Delhi Capitals player Taniyaa Bhatia. Having lost her spot in the national team  since August 2022 due to the impressive performances of Richa Ghosh, Bhatia views the WPL as a chance to prove her worth and reclaim her position.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Bhatia spoke about the significance of the WPL in her bid to return to the national team. The wicket-keeper stated that the Women's Premier League is crucial for her since she has not played international cricket for a long time. She reckoned that in Hyderabad's inter-zonal games, she played a significant role in three match-winning performances, leading North Zone to become champions.

The 25-year-old stated that her confidence is high and she will bring it with her to the WPL. She also said that is not worried about re-entering the Indian team and intends to use this chance to display her batting abilities. Bhatia believes focusing on an Indian comeback would add extra pressure.

Concerning the wicket-keeping position, which is currently occupied by Ghosh, the Chandigarh born cricketer expressed her admiration for the youngster’s exceptional talent, however, she emphasized that she had never been preoccupied with other players since her debut.

Bhatia believes that each player has unique strengths, and she focused on discovering hers to enhance her performance. The stumper opined that when she went back, she worked on improving her scoring ability and strike rate.
