Women's T20 Challenge | 'Always positive and live in the moment’- Taniya Bhatia

Out of favour, Women's wicketkeeper Taniya Bhatia is eyeing a comeback into the Indian white-ball team, given the cricket-heavy season ahead. The Chandigarh-born has not been a regular for India, and the upcoming international fixtures will be crucial for her.

Taniya, who played for Women's T20 Challenge 2022 winner Supernovas, said she has been working on her strike rate, given the number of T20s queued this year.

According to news18.com, Taniya said, “The main thing is to accept things, so I accepted my situations.

"I thought during the World Cup that I would work on my batting when I went back. I knew there are T20s lined up this season, so I started working on my strike rate during the domestic tournament," she said.

The middle-order-batter scored 36 and 1 in the two innings she batted. She also claimed three catches and a stumping for the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side across three games.

Taniya additionally explained her approach this season. “T20 cricket is all about maintaining strike rate and average, so I also kept my focus on that, to act according to the situation, and now also when I go back, my preparation and focus will remain the same for the upcoming games," she added.

Taniya was a member of the Mithali Raj-led side in the recently held ICC World Cup in New Zealand but remained benched all throughout as youngster Richa Ghosh got preferred due to her batting.

She last played an ODI for India this year against the New Zealand women in Queenstown.

“I am always positive and live in the moment. I didn’t think about the past, even during the domestic season. Before coming here, I thought that I would just focus on my role, do what the situation demands and not think about what is happening outside and try to grab the opportunities that come my way," the 24-year-old concluded.

India Women are due to play in major competitions shortly: the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and the T20 World Cup next year.
