Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Roundup: 3rd October

The Quaid-e-Azam Trophy witnessed three matches being resumed on Tuesday (October 3). Here's a brief report on the action that transpired at Abbottabad, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi. 


Khyber Pakhtunkhwa vs Southern Punjab

Batting first, Khyber lost Ashfaq Ahmed (7) early. However, Waqar Ahmed and Sahibzada Farhan (44) were terrific adding 88 runs for the second wicket and providing stability to the team. 


The dismissal of Farhan opened the floodgates for the Southern team, as they soon reduced Khyber to 163/8. The unbeaten knock of 134 off 218 balls from Waqar Ahmed and tail-enders' support helped them post 240 on the board. Mohammad Ilyas was the pick of the bowlers with four scalps. 

In response, Southern are at 48/3 at end of Day 1, with Agha Salman and Ali Usman at the crease.

Northern Pakistan vs Sindh

Sindh chose to bat first at Faisalabad, and got a superb start from their openers Khurram Manzoor (58) and Saim Ayub (35). Then, the skipper Saud Shakeel was mesmerizing with his strokeplay to hit a century, while Omair Yousuf was a helping hand with a knock of 35. 

At the end of Day 1, Sindh are at 279/4, with Shakeel (112*) and Saad Khan (11*) as the overnight batters.

Balochistan vs Central Punjab

Invited to bat first, Balochistan openers Imran Butt and Imam-ul-Haq were dismissed in quick succession. It took the partnership between Azeem Ghumman (21) and captain Asad Shafiq (34) to resurrect the team's innings. 

Afterwards, Hussain Talat (43) and Haseebullah Khan (25) were the contributors as Balochistan managed to score only 185 on the board.  Ahmed Daniyal and Mohammad Ali scalped three wickets each. 

In response, Central were off to a good start with experienced Abid Ali (30) and Abdullah Shafique (36). In the end, they are 91/2 with Azhar Ali and skipper Mohammad Saad at the crease.
