Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni will be seeking expert medical advice from sports orthopaedics in Mumbai to know the nature and severity of his left knee injury before taking a call on his treatment, CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed on Wednesday.

Dhoni played the entire Indian Premier League 2023 with a partially healed knee. At times, he was seen limping on the field while keeping wickets. However, his batting position was mostly at No. 8, and his running between the wickets lacked its usual swiftness.

While talking about the Super Kings' captain and his knee injury, CSK's CEO confirmed to the PTI that Dhoni will undergo rehabilitation and he might consider surgery if required.

Here’s what Viswanathan told:

"Yes, it is true that Dhoni will be taking medical advice for his left knee injury and accordingly decide. If surgery is advised, it can only be ascertained after reports come out, it will be completely his call."

On being asked about the possibility of Dhoni opting out of the next season, potentially freeing up a purse of INR 15 crore for the mini-auction, the CEO dismissed such speculations, stating that they haven't even thought about that scenario yet.

"Frankly, we are not even thinking on those lines as we haven't reached that stage. It will be completely Dhoni's call. But I can tell you in CSK, we haven't entertained those thoughts," he added.

Expressing the challenges he faces in preparing for an IPL season, MS Dhoni emphasized the toll it takes on him, particularly after he retired from international cricket three years ago.

Here’s what was Dhoni's reply:

"If you see, this is the best time to announce my retirement. But the amount of love and affection I have been shown wherever I have been this year, the easy thing would be for me to say 'Thank you very much', but the tough thing for me is to work hard for another 9 months and come back and play at least 1 more season of IPL."

Chennai Super Kings clinched their fifth IPL trophy on May 30th, beating Gujarat Titans by five wickets in the final of the Indian Premier League 2023 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
