Chennai Super Kings (CSK) home fixture against Lucknow Super Giants went underway on April 3 evening in front of a packed M. A. Chidambaram Stadium. Notably, the match itself witnessed a delayed start courtesy of a dog invading the outfield.

The fixture eventually commenced a while later after the dog was chased away by the ground staff. While his pitch invasion became a moment to cheer for the crowd, on-air commentator Sunil Gavaskar criticised the groundsmen for allowing a dog into the ground in the first place.

MS Dhoni’s homecoming interrupted by a dog

CSK’s first home game since IPL 2019 was delayed by a few minutes after a dog was found circling around the outfield. The seemingly adorable moment seems to have not sit well with former Indian cricketer and active commentator Sunil Gavaskar, who lambasted the authorities for the incident.

“This is just not acceptable... this delay. I mean, whoever has let this dog in, it's not on. Chasing it is not going to help.”

Eagerly awaiting MS Dhoni fans eventually got their money’s worth as the CSK skipper clubbed a three-ball 12 in the death overs for his side. The hosts slammed 217 on the board upfront, courtesy of Ruturaj Gaikwad’s second successive fifty of the season and Devon Conway’s return to form.
