On Saturday, September 21, India's star batter Shubman Gill silenced his critics after he smashed his 5th Test century. In the ongoing match against Bangladesh at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai, Gill was under the scanner following a duck in the first innings but turned things around in the second innings with a 161-ball century.

Gill loves playing against Bangladesh, as it was his 2nd Test hundred against the Tigers. His first ton against the Najmul Shanto-led side came during India's tour to Bangladesh in 2022. It is worth noting that it was also Gill's first Test century. Talking about Gill's maiden Test century, let's revisit his first triple-figure score in a red-ball hundred.

Gill’s Breakthrough: Reliving Shubman Gill’s First Test Century

In the first Test between India and Bangladesh at the Chattogram, Shubman Gill displayed his batting prowess in the second innings, scoring 110 (152), including ten fours and three sixes.

In the first innings, India scored 404 runs, but Gill failed to convert the good start and tumbled for just 20 runs. In reply, Bangladesh scored just 150 runs.

In the second innings, Gill, who opened the innings, scored 110 before getting trapped by Mehidy Hasan Miraj. Gill's knock helped India register a 188-run victory. It is worth noting that Gill's 110-runs knock is also his joint-fourth highest knock in Test cricket.

Gill had a chance to bring up his maiden Test century against Australia in the famous Gabba Test during India's 2020-21 Test against the baggy greens, but he got out on 91. Nonetheless, Gill played a crucial role in helping India register their first ever win against Australia at the Gabba.
