The stakes couldn’t be higher as India get ready to lock horns with Bangladesh in Super Fours Match 4 of the Asia Cup 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. It’s do-or-die for the Tigers while the Men in Blue know that a win will seal their ticket to the final.
Fireworks are guaranteed when these two sides collide. And if you need a reminder of what this rivalry can produce, just look back at their last T20I meeting in October 2024.
Samson steals the show
That night in Hyderabad belonged to Sanju Samson. He walked in with intent, played his shots from ball one and ended up with a jaw-dropping 111 off just 47 balls. Eleven fours, eight sixes and a strike rate that made bowlers look like schoolboys, Samson was in dreamland. The crowd roared with every hit and Bangladesh bowlers looked short of answers.
SKY and Parag add fuel to the fire
Suryakumar Yadav was no less destructive. Captain cool in his own way, he smacked 75 off 35 balls with his trademark scoop and lofts. Then came Riyan Parag who added spice to the innings with a blazing 34 off just 13. Hardik Pandya too joined the party, hammering 47 off 18. India’s batting looked like a runaway train and by the time the dust settled, they had piled up a mountain of 297/6 in 20 overs.
Bangladesh under the pump
Chasing 298 was always going to be mission impossible. Bangladesh’s innings never really got going. Early wickets meant the chase was on shaky ground. Litton Das tried to steady the ship with 42 off 25 but it was Towhid Hridoy who showed real fight. His unbeaten 63 was classy, filled with crisp strokes. But with no support from the other end, it was always a lone battle.
Indian bowlers close the deal
India’s young quick Mayank Yadav impressed with pace and picked up two wickets. Ravi Bishnoi’s spin did the trick as he grabbed three scalps. Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy chipped in too. Bangladesh were eventually restricted to 164/7, falling short by a massive 133 runs.
That thrashing in Hyderabad still lingers in memory. India’s batting firepower can blow away attacks while their bowling has the variety to choke oppositions. Bangladesh know this and heading into the Asia Cup clash, they will have to find a way to turn the tide.
