In the ongoing Asia Cup Super Four match between India and Bangladesh at the Dubai International Stadium, Gautam Gambhir made a few bold calls. The coach came to the limelight after India promoted Shivam Dube up the order, and the CSK star batted at No.3.

The gamble didn't work out as Dube quickly returned to the pavilion. However, the Indian coach again became a talking point on the internet after Sanju Samson was demoted further down the order and Axar Patel was sent ahead of him in the batting order.

Axar Patel Promoted Ahead Of Sanju Samson

Notably, the RR captain, who was India's opener before the Asia Cup, was demoted down the middle-order, but in the ongoing match, the fans got angry as the right-handed batter didn't walk to bat despite the fall of the fifth wicket.

The internet was visibly upset as Axar Patel was asked to bat above Sanju. Meanwhile, this article will look at who actually deserves a promotion and will compare Axar and Sanju's batting stats.

Key Observations

Sanju Samon has played more games than Axar Patel since 2024 T20 World Cup and has been in fine form, which has been ignored completely by the management in Asia Cup.

Looking at the runs scored, then there is no comparison as Sanju scored 583 runs and also averages 36.43, which is more than Axar Patel. However, Axar boasts a better strike-rate than Sanju, but that is only because he has played fewer deliveries than Sanju.

Axar walked to bat in the 16th over of the match and it didn't made any sense as the left-handed batter scored just 10 (15).

Conclusion

Sanju Samon's demotion below Axar Patel made no sense and the management made a big mistake by sending in Axar, who clearly struggled to bat. Whether the reason behind was to score quick runs or left-hand right-hand combination, but the decision did not work and the move didn't work for India.

Gautam Gambhir is facing heavy criticism for his decision and the fans have also termed it as a disrespect towards the right-handed batter.
