The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Wednesday, announced India Men's T20I squad for the upcoming five match T20I series against West Indies in the Caribbean and Florida in August, later this year. The Senior Men’s Selection Committee selected a 15-member squad with Hardik Pandya continuing as captain and Suryakumar Yadav named as his deputy.

Following the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup, the transition for the Indian T20I squad had begun. Hardik Pandya has been the unofficial first choice captain with senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli not taking part in any T20Is after the semi final loss against England last year.

There has been a constant focus on building a completely new team under Hardik with proven performers in the shortest format of the game. The recently announced squad clearly showed the motive as maiden call-ups were handed to the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma on the back of their fantastic performances in the IPL.

However, the omission of some of the players, who deserved a ticket to the West Indies, have fetched numerous questions on the newly formed Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee. The likes of Rinku Singh, Nitish Rana and Jitesh Sharma failed to find a place in the T20I squad for the West Indies tour.

Nitish Rana’s wife Saachi Marwah quoted the Bhagavad Gita

Nitish Rana’s wife Saachi Marwah posted an Instagram story, quoting the Bhagavad Gita, following Rana’s exclusion from the recently announced Indian T20I squad for the West Indies series.

The quotes read:

"Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is."

Rana, who had made his India debut in Sri Lanka back in 2021, has not been part of any Indian squad since then. The Kolkata Knight Riders’ stand-in captain had a terrific season in IPL 2023, scoring 413 runs at a strike rate of 141, including three half centuries. Additionally, he had a brilliant Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy season last year with 317 runs in eight matches.

Keeping the next edition of the T20 World Cup in 2024, players like Rana will be hoping to waste no time and break it to the Indian team. The upcoming domestic season will be another opportunity for the southpaw to impress the selectors and earn a comeback to the Indian squad.
