Pakistan's pace sensation Shaheen Shah Afridi has emphasized the importance of focusing on winning the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 as a whole, rather than solely fixating on the much-anticipated clash against India.

The monumental clash between the two cricketing giants is set to take place on October 15 at Ahmedabad's illustrious Narendra Modi Stadium, with a record-breaking attendance anticipated. Although India have a flawless record against Pakistan in 50-over World Cup encounters, winning all seven matches, Pakistan's recent resurgence has levelled the playing field.

Pakistan's premier fast bowler-Shaheen believes that the team should not limit their aspirations to the India-Pakistan encounter alone.

In an interview with a local TV channel, Afridi expressed his thoughts, saying, "We should stop thinking and concentrating on just India versus Pakistan match because that's just one game. We need to focus our thoughts on how to win the World Cup, and as a team, this will be our aim."

Dismissing concerns about his fitness, Afridi confidently affirmed his readiness for the challenge.

"I am fully fit, which is why I have made a comeback in the Test team. If I were not in optimal condition, I would not have been selected. I will be representing Pakistan's national team, not a club-level team," the premier pacer said.

By emphasising the significance of the World Cup and broadening the team's perspective, Shaheen Afridi aims to instil a collective focus on achieving success in the tournament. He encourages his teammates to channel their energy and efforts towards the ultimate goal of becoming world champions.

With the entire team united in their pursuit of victory, Pakistan aims to emerge as the champions for the first time since the 1992 Cricket World Cup.

Earlier in the month, Pakistan's vice-captain Shadab Khan also stated the same when he was asked about the hype around the upcoming India versus Pakistan World Cup game.

Although before the World Cup, the two Asian giants could play against each other at least thrice in the Asia Cup 2023, scheduled for August-September.
