England's former captain Joe Root and former Number 1 T20I batter Dawid Malan have signed two-year deals with Yorkshire County Cricket Club (YCCC). This news comes as a breath of freshness for the club after their relegation from County Championship Division One this season.

Yorkshire Director of Cricket Darren Gough confirmed the same while answering a Q/A session on the club's website. Malan, who signed a four-year deal in 2019, still has one year remaining in his current contract.

These deals ensure Root and Malan will feature in the next two County Championship seasons until 2024.

Gough on Root and Malan

“Joe Root and Dawid Malan have just signed new contracts, with Joe signing a two-year contract and Dawid a two-year extension on top of the one year that he has left. There is a lot to be excited about and players are committed to this club.”

Yorkshire lost their final County 2022 Division One match against Gloucestershire without Root and Malan. Root was seen playing golf in Scotland, while Malan was involved in international duties in Pakistan.
