'Rohit Sharma needs to...': Remarks Kiwi Veteran After RR Star's Blistering Knock

In the wake of Jos Buttler's sublime 95 off 59 balls against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday, former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris has proffered advice to Mumbai Indians' (MI) captain, Rohit Sharma, to emulate the Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener's technique in order to rekindle his form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

Buttler, who had begun the tournament with a bang, had subsequently floundered in subsequent fixtures, until he staged a remarkable return to his vintage self in the match against SRH.

In an interview with Jio Cinema, Styris opined that Rohit could take a cue from Buttler's play style, and gradually build up his innings if he is unable to find his rhythm early on. The Kiwi veteran went on to expatiate on Buttler's tactics, noting that the Englishman had displayed tremendous maturity in his approach, and attributed it to his awareness of his own abilities.

“When you think about Jos Buttler, he is a player who knows he has the power game to comeback (after a slow start). We have been talking about it for a few games that Rohit Sharma needs to take a leaf out of that book. Exactly the innings that he should look to play,” said Styris.

The erstwhile all-rounder urged the Mumbai Indians star to adopt a similar approach, and begin his innings cautiously before launching an attack on the bowlers.

“Take 20 balls and then go through the gears because Rohit Sharma is a talented man like Jos Buttler. Buttler showed maturity for Rajasthan," added the 47-year-old.

Rohit Sharma's campaign in the IPL thus far has been a disappointment, as the Mumbai Indian skipper has struggled to score runs, amassing just 184 runs in 10 innings, with an unimpressive average of 18.40 and a strike rate of 126.90.

Nevertheless, the advice from Styris may prove beneficial to the beleaguered captain, and it remains to be seen if he can channel his inner self and stage a resurgence in the tournament.
