Peshawar Zalmi's captain, Babar Azam, has exemplified his ability to remain impervious to negative criticism directed towards him by merely focusing on his game. During a press conference held in Lahore on Saturday, the esteemed cricketer was asked how he remains composed and refrains from responding negatively despite criticism by both past and present cricketers.
Azam eloquently responded, stating that it is vital to maintain positivity while avoiding overconfidence. He further highlighted the importance of maintaining humility by acknowledging his origins and always being mindful of his journey. In addition, the elegant right-hander emphasized his ability to meet everyone with a smile, promoting a positive outlook on life.
During the conference, the 28-year old also expressed his excitement regarding the upcoming match between Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars, specifically mentioning the challenge of facing off against one of Pakistan's best bowlers, Shaheen Afridi. He spoke of the intense competition between the two, recognizing Afridi's day-by-day improvements and hailing him as one of the country's top talents.
Furthermore, the Pakistan skipper praised his opening partner at Zalmi, Mohammad Haris, and elaborated on the contrast between Haris and his opening partner in the national T20I side, Mohammad Rizwan. He spoke of the joy he experiences while playing with all his teammates and the importance of performing according to the demands of each situation.
The cricketer also noted that although Haris is an excellent young player who tries to dominate the opponent, there is still room for improvement. He acknowledged his role in guiding and supporting the youngster, in hopes of achieving favourable results.
The Zalmi have had a mixed start to their PSL 2023 campaign, having won two games and lost as many. Babar will look to lead his side to a win in the game against the Qalandars and get them back to winning ways. The high-octane clash is slated to take place on Sunday, February 26 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
