Islamabad United batsman, Azam Khan, caught the attention of cricket enthusiasts with his stunning performance during the 13th match of the eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) against the Quetta Gladiators.
The player's swashbuckling knock of 97 runs off just 42 balls, which included nine boundaries and eight maximums, helped the United pile up a formidable score of 220-6, the highest in the tournament thus far, courtesy of which the Gladiators lost their fourth game out of five in the tournament.
Facing his father, Moin Khan, who is also the head coach of the opposing team, the right-hander displayed exceptional batting skills, achieving an impressive strike rate of 230.95.
Speaking to the media after the match, an emotional Azam attributed his success to his father, who has always been his biggest inspiration and source of support. The player shared that his father's unwavering belief in him and his abilities has been a driving force throughout his career.
According to the 24-year-old, his father had provided him with invaluable guidance and motivation, especially during times of criticism and adversity. The young cricketer expressed his gratitude to his father for making him mentally strong and instilling in him the determination to overcome all odds. He also revealed that after the match, his father praised his performance and urged him to maintain his consistency.
In regards to his playing style, Azam emphasized the importance of strike rate in T20 cricket and stated that hitting the ball hard and capitalizing on every opportunity is his preferred approach. The attacking batsman acknowledged the limited time available to set up shots in the position he plays and highlighted the significance of being ready to hit the ball hard at all times.
The Karachi-born cricketer also shared that he is physically fit and ready to play for Pakistan whenever given the opportunity.
