On this day last year, November 15, 2023, Indian stalwart Virat Kohli gave cricket fans a moment to remember. The Indian batting mainstay notched his 50th ODI century and became the first player ever to reach this milestone. Notably, it all happened at the Wankhede Stadium, right before his hero, Sachin Tendulkar.

Virat Kohli Became The First Player To Score His 50th ODI

The vibe at Wankhede was electric. India was up against New Zealand in the World Cup semi-final, and everyone knew Virat Kohli was just one century away from something massive. Kohli entered the field with his usual determination and started scoring in his vintage style. Each boundary he hit made the crowd erupt and pushed him closer to history.

And then it happened. With a stunning cover drive, Kohli hit his 50th century. The crowd went wild. Teammates clapped, fans roared, and Kohli just soaked it all in. Helmet off, he knelt down, looked to the sky, and then, as a final touch, he turned towards Sachin Tendulkar and gave a respectful bow. The crowd knew they were watching something special.

Breaking the Master Blaster’s Record

Kohli's 50th wasn't just another ton. He'd broken a record held by none other than Tendulkar, who took 452 innings to hit 49 centuries. Kohli did it in just 279 innings. It was like passing the baton in Indian cricket, with the master watching his protege shine.

India’s Total Domination

Kohli scored 117 off 113 balls with nine fours and two sixes, but his century wasn't the only fireworks. Shreyas Iyer followed up with a blazing hundred, helping India post a massive 397/4.

And when it was New Zealand's turn, India's bowlers were on fire, led by Shami's incredible 7/57. Despite Daryl Mitchell's solid 134, New Zealand couldn't match up, and India took a huge 70-run win to book their spot in the final.
