The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 hosted a dramatic encounter between Quetta Gladiators bowler Mohammad Amir and Peshawar Zalmi opener Saim Ayub. In a fiery on-field scuffle, the two players were involved in an exchange of words, but it was Babar Azam who paid the ultimate price.

On April 12, 2025, Peshawar Zalmi were up against Quetta Gladiators in the 2nd match of the PSL 2025 season. The incident happened in the very first over of Zalmi’s chase of a mammoth 217-run target set by Quetta in the first inning.

With both teams loaded with big names and expectations running high, things escalated quickly when Mohammad Amir bowled the opening over to a young Saim Ayub. Tensions flared after a delivery when Saim seemed to say something to Amir.

What followed was an intense exchange of words, with Amir making animated gestures and hurling abuses. Amir later stepped up, visibly angry, while Saim turned around and faced him boldly. The standoff lasted a few seconds before the on-field umpire intervened to cool things down.

But the drama was far from over. On the last ball of that over, Amir struck a thunderbolt, sending Zalmi captain Babar Azam packing in a two-ball duck. It had been a huge blow to Peshawar at the start of their innings and only served to fuel further the already sizzling story about Amir having unsettled Zalmi with his aggressive start.

The early face-off set the tone right for the Quetta Gladiators as Abrar Ahmed picked up a 4-wicket-haul to bowl out Peshawar Zalmi for 136 runs and seal an 80-run big victory for his side.

Ayub scored a half-century, but 6 batters went back to the pavilion on a duck, making Zalmi’s chase miserable. Eventually, Mohammad Amir’s Gladiators had the last laugh and beat Babar Azam’s Zalmi fair and square.
