Sydney Sixers have retained pacer Mickey Edwards for the upcoming BBL 2022-23 edition. Edwards will be playing his sixth season for the Sixers, having suffered a string of injuries in the past few years.

Since making his debut in BBL 07, the 27-year-old has established himself as a crowd favorite in Sydney. The long-haired bowler made his return to First-Class cricket last week, featuring in his first Sheffield Shield game since 2018 for New South Wales

In 3 BBL matches, Edwards has picked 2 wickets. Overall, the lanky-fast bowler has 20 wickets in 5 First-Class and 10 List-A appearances combined.

Edwards sounded excited about the new season in a club statement.

"I am incredibly excited for the season ahead. The SCG is one of the best venues in the world and I can’t wait to be back playing in front of full stadiums this summer. We have some of the best, and most passionate, supporters in the league and I’m so excited to see them turn out for us again this year."

Head coach Greg Shipperd welcomed Edwards' extended stay with the Sixers.

"Mickey has been a part of our journey the past five seasons and we are delighted to have him continue with the Sixers family. He has come off of an English season that has assisted his recent domestic selection and good form."

The Sixers will clash against the Adelaide Strikers in their opening BBL 12 encounter next week.
