In a remarkable turn of events, ace seamer Tim Southee has etched his name in history books by becoming the first-ever bowler to scalp 700 international wickets for New Zealand.

Southee achieved this phenomenal milestone by dismissing Ben Duckett on the first day of the second Test against England in Wellington on Friday.

Most International Wickets for New Zealand

  • Tim Southee: 700 Wickets in 353 Matches
  • Daniel Vettori: 696 Wickets in 437 Matches
  • Sir Richard Hadlee: 589 Wickets in 201 Matches
  • Trent Boult: 578 Wickets in 232 Matches
  • Chris Cairns: 419 Wickets in 278 Matches

P.S: Daniel Vettori's rest nine international wickets have come while playing for the ICC World XI.

After debuting in 2008, Southee gradually established himself as a vital cog in the New Zealand setup across formats.

Overall, he has 355 scalps to his name in Tests, while picking 210 and 134 wickets in ODIs and T20Is, respectively. In the absence of Trent Boult, the 34-year-old currently spearheads the Kiwi pace attack alongside Matt Henry and Neil Wagner in this series.

Regarding the game, Southee and Henry's opening spell initially brought England down on their knees, reeling at 21 for three at one stage.

However, swashbuckling batter Harry Brook and experienced Joe Root executed a commendable resurrection, stitching a mammoth unbeaten 294-run stand for the fourth wicket.

As a result, the visitors look all set for a massive first innings score, being placed at 315 for three at stumps on day 1.
