With no Josh Hazlewood or Lungi Ngidi available, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) played a punt against the Lucknow Super Giants and handed debut cap to Sri Lanka's Nuwan Thushara. The former Mumbai Indians star had prior IPL experience, but he truly announced his arrival with his hostile bowling which stunned LSG.
The RCB stand-in captain, Jitesh Sharma decided to test the LSG openers against Thushara and he looked unplayable. He bowled with sheer pace and struck gold as he bowled an inch perfect yorker which shattered Matthew Breetzke's stumps.
RCB unleashes mystery pacer Nuwan Thushara
A fanboy of Lasith Malinga, Thushara has a bowling action similar to his idol, Malinga. He is known for bowling at express pace and his ability to deliver pinpoint yorkers makes him the perfect T20 bowler.
In 18 matches for Sri Lanka, the mystery pacer has scalped 26 wickets but most importantly he has an economy of just 7.65 which makes him a dangerous commodity in the game's shortest format.
He has quite a few similarities with Malinga in terms of T20 bowling. Both the bowlers can swing the ball at rapid pace and also have a nice slower delivery which works as a disguise.
What was Nuwan Thushara's IPL 2025 price?
RCB had a steal deal in the mega auction when they purchased Thushara for just INR 1.60 crore. He was brought into the side to play the role of a death overs specialist as the bowler has impeccable control over his lines and lengths, something which his countryman, Matheesha Pathirana lacks.
