Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer, Mark Wood, is set to depart from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 to England for the birth of his daughter. The franchise confirmed the news on Sunday, following their defeat to Gujarat Titans, and posted a video of Wood's statement on their social media channels.

In the video posted by LSG, the English cricketer described his exit as unfortunate but for a worthy cause. He acknowledged that he regretted not playing more games, having obtained some wickets in the four matches he played. Wood also conveyed his affection for the team and praised their staff while expressing his gratitude towards them.

"For the birth of my daughter. So, sadly, but for a good reason to go home. Hopefully, I might be able to come back and hopefully, you will be able to see me again. I am sorry that unfortunately I have not played more and in the four games that I have managed to play, I have managed to get a few wickets and hopefully, I can charge in again," said Wood.

Furthermore, the lanky pacer reiterated the team's objective of making it to the playoffs and ultimately to the finals. He acknowledged that the team had worked hard despite their loss to Gujarat Titans, and urged the fans to remain supportive of their team.

"One last push and get into those playoffs and make it to the finals. That's the goal and as a group, we understand that. It is tough in sports, you win some and you lose some but the lads are training hard,” concluded the 33-year-old.

Though Wood started his IPL 2023 season in a spectacular fashion, he played only five matches, owing to his inconsistency and the team's selection choices. The fiery speedster grabbed 11 wickets in the five matches he played, with his best performance being a five-wicket haul against Delhi Capitals.
