New Zealand tearaway pacer Lockie Ferguson turned up the heat at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday afternoon as he delivered the fastest delivery of IPL 2023 during a fixture between the Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders.

Ferguson, who is representing the Knight Riders this season, delivered a fullish length delivery at Shubman Gill in the first over of his spell at 154.4 kmph, which the stylish GT opener carved past backward point for a single.

The New Zealand bolter continued to crank up his pace in excess of 150 kmph on a consistent basis, but failed to make any sort of impact as he returned with figures of 0/40 in his quota of 4 overs.

As far as the match is concerned, the defending champions rode on the back of valuable contributions from Gill (39 off 31) Sai Sudarshan (53 off 38) and a power packed final overs assault from Vijay Shankar, who hammered a 24-ball 63 to propel his side to a commanding 204/4 in 20 overs.

In response, KKR have kept themselves in the run-chase despite early set-backs, thanks to some brilliant batting from Impact substitute Venkatesh Iyer and captain Nitish Rana.

At the time of writing, the duo had added 100 runs in just 54 deliveries, propelling the former champions to 128/2 after 13 overs.
