Krunal Pandya led the Lucknow Super Giants against RCB in match number 43 of the IPL 2023 season. The star all-rounder stood in place of regular skipper KL Rahul, who had injured his right thigh muscle while fielding within the second over of the match itself.

The Super Giants ultimately ended up missing their charismatic leaders’ batsmanship, as they fell 18 runs short while chasing a modest total in front of their home crowd in Lucknow.

After the match, stand-in skipper Pandya praised his bowlers for restricting a strong RCB batting line-up upfront, but also lamented his side for not executing their plans in an otherwise easy run chase.

Krunal Pandya says medical team to asses KL Rahul

Senior all-rounder Krunal Pandya ably led his side in KL Rahul’s absence, as he tactically marshalled his troops to restrict RCB’s star-studded batting line-up to just 126. However, the Super Giants batters, fresh from hammering 257 in an innings last week itself, succumbed in their pursuit as 108 was all they could manage in the run-chase.

During the post-match presentation, Pandya praised his bowlers for restricting RCB, and for consistently putting up strong bowling performances throughout the competition.

He also claimed that he would have gladly taken 126 before the start of the game, and lamented his batters for not being able to chase a modest task.

"We did pretty well in the first half restricting them. It was a great team effort. Really happy with how we have bowled this tournament. 126, at the start of the game, we would have taken. But we just could not execute our plans."

The cricketer also gave an update on KL Rahul’s injury and added that the medical team will make further assessments of the issue.

"KL Rahul pulled his hip flexor, I guess. I do not know how bad it is. The medical team will assess it."
