Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB): 126/9 in 20 overs [Faf du Plessis 44 (40), Virat Kohli 31 (30); Naveen-ul-Haq 3/30 (4), Ravi Bishnoi 2/21 (4)] beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) : 108-10 in 19.4 overs [Krishnappa Gowtham 23 (13), Amit Mishra 19 (30); Karn Sharma 2/20 (4), Josh Hazlewood 2/15 (3)] by 18 runs.

RCB lose their way after a cautious start from Kohli-Faf Du Plessis

RCB won an important toss and decided to bat first on a pitch that was expected to get more and more difficult to bat as the game progresses. Kohli and Faf started cautiously with plenty of plays and misses but managed to hung in till the 9th over and had a crucial 62-run stand. To add to LSG's misery, their skipper, KL Rahul was injured in the second over while trying to stop the ball near the boundary ropes and walked off the field.

LSG bowlers though managed to make a comeback after Ravi Bishnoi outfoxed Kohli and wickets started crumbling for RCB. Faf du Plessis scored 44 and Kohli scored 31 but none of the batters after that could show application as trio of Naveen-ul-Haq, Ravi Bishnoi and Amit Mishra picked 7 wickets between them. RCB were eventually restricted to 126-9 in their 20 overs but it was still a challenging total with the nature of the pitch and doubts over KL Rahul's availability.

LSG batters fail to show application to hand RCB a crucial win

LSG sent out Ayush Badoni - the impact player in place of KL Rahul to open alongside Kyle Mayers. However, Mayers could not make any impact in this game and departed for a duck in the very first over to hand Siraj another wicket in the Powerplay. Krunal Pandya walked out to bat at number 3 and played some good shots but soon Maxwell got rid of him to trigger a collapse. In a matter of few overs, LSG were reduced to 38-5 with RCB spinners all over LSG batters.

Stoinis managed to spend some time in the middle and Krishnappa Gowtham who came in at number 7, looked like the only batter who was comfortable in the middle. However, Karn Sharma took the wicket of Stoinis in the 11th over and Gowtham was unfortunately run out in the next over to put LSG on the back foot again.

It was the 9th wicket partnership of Amit Mishra and Naveen-ul-Haq that took LSG over 100 creating a glimmer of hope. Naveen-ul-Haq , however, departed when LSG needed 24 off 8 balls and though KL Rahul walked out to bat at number 11, he was just not fit enough to make any impact. LSG were eventually bundled out for 108 in the final over and the 66 dot balls they played in their innings cost them the game. RCB have moved to the fifth position on the points table with this win.
