Virat Kohli relishes his role as an experienced teammate and mentor for his potential successor Shubman Gill, having identified the rising prodigy as one of India's finest contemporary young talents.

The modern-day legend forms a strong working relationship with Gill on and off the field and is constantly ear to his questions on technique and the 24-year-old's overall game.

In a cordial duet, Kohli makes sure he comes up with the right answers to Gill's queries and plays a great medium in ensuring he fulfils his talent and promise for India at the international stage.

On his part, the youngster has been willing to learn from the maestro and constantly evolve as an elegant right-hand batter.

When Kohli Opened Up On Working Relationship With Gill

Kohli spoke about his flourishing duo with Gill during an interview with the International Cricket Council (ICC) in June before the World Test Championship (WTC) final at The Oval against Australia.

The great batter opened up on how he has taken the role and responsibility to help the rising youngster sharpen his game and grow a mentality to win matches for the country.

"He (Gill) speaks to me a lot about the game, is very keen to learn and has an amazing skill set at his age," Kohli told ICC. "He has got an amazing ability and a temperament to perform at the highest level and is confident and we do have that relationship and we do have that understanding based upon respect."

While Gill has been a dominant figure in One-Day Internationals over the past two years, his struggles in Tests and T20Is for India have raised scrutiny on the Punjab batter.

Kohli, however, believes it's a matter of time and experience before the world finally witnesses the best of him across formats. The legend also brushed aside tags of King and Prince associated with the two with a larger point.

"I am keen to help him grow and really understand his potential and come into his own so that he can play for a long time and perform consistently and India cricket gets benefited," Kohli said.

"These tags of king and prince and all of that kind of thing are great for the public and spectators to see, but I think the job of any senior player is to help improve the youngsters and give them the insight you have had throughout your career," he added.
