India batter Jemimah Rodrigues shared how Rohit Sharma motivated her when the former got dropped from the squad for the Women's ODI World Cup 2022.

Recounting his own experience of facing a snub ahead of the 2011 World Cup, Rohit had motivated Jemimah, as revealed by the latter herself in the latest season of the Breakfast with Champions.

"He (Rohit Sharma) was like 'No, a lot of people came up to me at that time and said a lot of things but nobody knew what I was going through'. There was only one person, Yuvraj Singh, who came up to him (Rohit), took him out for dinner and there was nobody else. He said he was depressed for a month. When he said that I was crying inside but I was literally in tears," Jemimah said.

Further, Jemimah revealed Rohit's advice to her and how it stuck with her.

"He said: 'Tough times will happen but you know it is what you do next. Make sure when you get the next opportunity, you are ready for it. It happens (or) doesn't happen it's fine.' And that stuck with me. I don't have to prove to anyone or anything. I just have to play for the pure joy of the game."

Like Rohit, who became one of the best white-ball batters following his exclusion from India's 2011 World Cup-winning squad, Jemimah too made a successful return to the national colours.

She was the third top-scorer for India in the T20 World Cup 2023, accumulating 129 runs in five matches that included a counter-attacking 24-ball 43 in the semi-final against Australia.
