Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni nearly pulled off a memorable chase against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) last evening in match 17 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhoni slammed an unbeaten 32 off 17 balls as Sandeep Sharma defended 21 runs in the final over to hand his side RR a three-run victory, the Royals' second-ever win at Chepauk.

However, in worrying news for the franchise, head coach Stephen Fleming revealed that Dhoni is nursing a knee injury and played the knock as a thorough professional.

Dhoni, along with Ravindra Jadeja added 59 runs for the seventh wicket, which included as many as three sixes from the former's bat.

As quoted by NDTV, Fleming lauded Dhoni for his work ethic and discipline as well.

Here's what Fleming said

"He is nursing a knee injury, which you can see in some of his movements. It's hindering him somewhat. His fitness has always been very professional. He comes a month before the tournament starts. He's a great player. We have never doubts over him. He's just amazing,"

Apart from Dhoni, South African bowler Sisanda Magala also injured his finger during fielding in last night's match and could be out of commission for a few weeks.

Deepak Chahar and Ben Stokes are already on the bench due to their respective injuries.

The Dhoni-led side are fifth in the IPL 2023 points table with two wins and as many losses, and will play the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday at Chinnaswamy.
