Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal emerged as a force to reckon with in the ongoing first Test against West Indies Dominica as he joined the ranks of a select few, including captain Rohit Sharma, to hit a century in their inaugural Test innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is on course to a double hundred on debut

On Thursday, Jaiswal played meticulously and ended Day 1 with an unscathed 40. Displaying extraordinary determination, he brought up his half-century on Day 2 and showcased a wide range of shots as he reached his first Test hundred.

As curtains drew on Day 2, Jaiswal stood tall with 143* runs to his name, having developed an 82-run partnership with Virat Kohli (36*). India held a commanding lead of 162 runs with 8 wickets still in their kitty. Following the day's play, a visibly emotional Jaiswal dedicated his exceptional performance to his parents.

In a video clip shared by the BCCI, Jaiswal expressed his emotions, conveying that the moment held great significance for him and his family. He extended his gratitude to everyone who had supported him throughout his journey and acknowledged the substantial contributions made by his parents.

While he kept his words brief, the southpaw conveyed his happiness and emphasized that this achievement marked only the beginning of his ambitious goals and aspirations.

"It is very emotional for me and my family. For everyone who has supported me in any way. It has been a long journey. I want to say thank you to everyone who has helped me in any way possible. I want to dedicate this to my mother and father, they've contributed a lot. Thanks to god. I won't say much now... I'm happy, this is just a start, I have a lot to do," said Jaiswal.

As play resumes on Day 3, Jaiswal will aim to maintain his impressive performance and notch a double hundred. Given his current form, it appears probable that the talented opener will achieve the milestone.
