On August 25, 2019, the world witnessed one of the most iconic finishes in Test Cricket history, as Ben Stokes powered England to a thrilling one-wicket win in the Headingley Test against Australia. His heroics not only ensured England's remarkable comeback, but also elevated his stature as one of the greatest players in modern-day game.

After Jofra Archer's incredible six-wicket haul restricted Australia to a modest 179-run total in the first innings, England were bowled out for just 67, thanks to a clinical fifer from Josh Hazlewood.

In response, the visitors were slightly more resilient in the second innings, posting 246 runs on the board and setting a challenging 359-run target for the home side.

Ben Stokes did the unthinkable to keep The Ashes alive

Unlike the first innings, England showcased exemplary skill with the bat, as valiant fifties from Joe Root and Joe Denly kept them alive in the game.

However, Ben Stokes eventually stole the show with a magnificent hundred, setting the tone for an emphatic English victory.

The road to glory wasn't smooth enough for the talismanic all-rounder, as the Aussies made him toil for every run. However, as his grit and determination was tested, Stokes showed nerves of steel to hold his composure and bat till the end for the sake of his team.

Added to that, a missed run out opportunity and a DRS blunder by then Aussie skipper Tim Paine ensured England crossed the finish line, with none other than Stokes hitting the winning boundary off Pat Cummins through the off side.
