West Indies star player Chris Gayle, popularly known as Universal Boss, turned 45 on September 21 (today). The legendary player has several unbreakable and unique records in his name. He is renowned for hammering the bowlers with his destructive batting, especially with long sixes.

So, as Chris Gayle celebrates his birthday today in this article, let's relive one of his most remarkable performances in IPL, which came in 2013.

Throwback To Gayle's Memorable Knock

What Chris Gayle did in this match has remained the single most astonishing feat of power-hitting ever witnessed in the history of T20 cricket. This inning still remains fresh in the minds of people and is one of the most celebrated knocks in T20 cricket.

In the year 2013, the world witnessed one of the most incredible and memorable knocks by Chris Gayle at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

Gayle scored a monstrous 175 off 66 balls in the game against the currently defunct team, Pune Warriors India. Earlier in the match, PWI skipper Aaron Finch won the toss and elected to field first. RCB openers Gayle and Tillakaratne Dilshan came on the crease and then came the big show by the 'Universe Boss'.

Gayle's Innings Progression

In his innings, he smashed a half-century in just 17 balls and then in the next 13 balls he completed his ton. The score was not enough for him who looked invincible and added 75 runs off his next 36 deliveries. He ended up hitting 13 boundaries and 17 sixes.

On a flat track and against a weak bowling attack, Gayle decided to show his batting class and prowess with brutal hitting. He stitched an opening stand of 167 alongside Tilakaratne Dilshan.

However, it is interesting to mention that in that partnership, Dilshan only contributed 33 runs as Gayle single-handedly tore apart the confidence of PWI bowlers. RCB posted a mammoth target of 264 runs but Pune managed to score just 133/9 with the Virat Kohli and Co registering a 130-run win.
