India are currently engaged in a battle with Bangladesh in the first Test of the two-match series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After the end of the first two days of play, the home team has the advantage as they have taken a massive lead of 308 runs with seven wickets still in hand in their second innings.

Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin saved India during batting

The Bangladesh skipper, Najmul Hossain Shanto, won the toss and put the Indian team to bat first. On a track that was favouring the seamers, the Bangladesh bowlers put the Indian batting under pressure as Hasan Mahmud dismissed the top three within the first ten overs.

India were struggling even by mid-session after lunch at 144/6 when Ravindra and Ravichandran Ashwin came together. The all-rounder showed great guts and resilience to bail the team out of trouble. Shouldered by Ravi Ashwin's 113 and Jadeja's 86, India posted 376 runs in their first innings.

Jasprit Bumrah decimated the Bangladesh batting line-up

Led by a lethal spell of Jaspirt Bumrah (4/50), the Indian bowling unit restricted Bangladesh to just 149. In their second dig in the match, the home is stationed at 81/3 with a massive lead of 308 runs under their belt.

While the Indian team is currently in control of the game, the form of the top order remains a concern. The recent struggle of the star batter, Virat Kohli, is also a point of worry for the management. However, this only adds to the anticipation for the upcoming matches and the potential for the Indian team to bounce back.

Virat Kohli's lack of batting form in 2023

In this Test also, Kohli managed to score only 6 and 17 in the two innings. Even though the Indian star is not in the best batting form, there is no dearth of fans following his commands. The craze among Indian cricket fans about Kohli was noticed during the second day of the IND vs BAN 1st Test.

Craze of Virat Kohli

Kohli, who was fielding at slips, turned towards the crowd and waved at them. This gesture created hysteria in the stands, and a loud cheer to his name started in Chepauk.

Notably, Chepauk, or the MA Chidambaram Stadium, is the home ground of the Chennai Super Kings. The rivalry between Chennai and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Virat Kohli's team, is famous in the league. Even during IPL 2024, the RCB fans were seen celebrating wildly after they defeated the Super Kings to make their way into the playoffs of the tournament.

Kohli's craze at Chepauk speaks of the cricketer's massive fan army. The fans hope that the superstar soon regains his form and emerges as one of the top performers for the Indian team in the upcoming long Test season.
