New Zealand have received a major setback with pacer Kyle Jamieson set to be sidelined from the upcoming England Test series and possibly longer.

Jamieson, was called up to the Black Caps squad after a long layofff due to a back injury, and now it seems there is a relapse of the back problem, that kept him out of the game for nearly nine months.

New Zealand coach, Gary Stead, will provide further details on Jamieson's injury on Tuesday, but as of now, his pace bowling options comes down to - Tim Southee, Neil Wagner, and Blair Tickner.

With just three days left for the start of the first Test, reinforcements will take place, and another name to be considered is Trent Boult. With Boult prioritising franchise leagues over national duty, Stead remains firm that Boult will not be considered for Test selection.

What Stead said on Jamieson?

“He’s being assessed by medical staff and we should have more of an update tomorrow.”

Jamieson, 28, had a bright start to his international career, and even starred in New Zealand's WTC finale win over India in June 2021. However, during the England tour in June last year, he suffered from a back injury, and it took a length rehabilitation process for him to play domestic cricket.

The Test series, that is scheduled to begin from February 16, will be a challenging one for the home team. England have won 9 out of their last 10 Test matches, and look unstoppable, with Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes at the helm.
